PURPOSE: To obtain a toner capable of providing a picture image having superior color reproducibility by once exposure and development and being particularly suited to color duplication, etc. by providing a coated layer comprising a mixture of a colorless sublimable dye and microfine polymer particles on the surface of transparent spherical polymer nucleus particles.

CONSTITUTION: Transparent, sperical polymer nucleus particles 1 having a uniform particle size distribution of 1W20μ particle size are prepd. by suspension polymn. or seed emulsion polymn. etc. in the presence of a stabilizing dispersant by adding a polymn. initiator to a styrenic monomer alone or a mixture with other monomer. On one hand, an aq. dispersion of microfine polymer particles is prepd. from a mixture contg. vinyl monomer(s) such as styrenic monomer, (meth) acrylic ester, etc., aq. soln. contg. a dispersant, and a polymn. initiator. Aq. dispersion of a colorless sublimable dye and aq. NaOH soln. are added to the dispersion to obtain a stabilized dispersion having ≥8pH, and the above described slurry of the nucleus particles is added thereto to obtain a uniform dispersion. The mixture is dried by spraying at above the glass transition temp. of the particle to form coating layer 2 on the particles 1. Thus, toner particles 6 capable of providing superior color picture image are obtd.
