This plate making device 1 for stencil printing is designed to perforate a stencil M per scan line, according to monochromatic information BW of a scan line by heating the stencil M using a thermal head 2 while moving the stencil M. In the operating mode, when it is determined whether the white information of a previous scan line has turned out to be black information in the present scan line, and it is found that the ratio of conversion of the white information of the previous scan line into the black information in the present scan line, is below the specified ratio, the heating cycle HC of the thermal head 2 can be shortened as compared with the case in which the ratio of conversion of the white information of the previous scan line into the black information in the present scan line, is higher than the specified ratio. Further, the movement speed of the stencil M can be accelerated.
