To prevent stain due to development of a silver salt aluminum planographic printing material, to enhance the image reproducibility of a printing plate and to improve staining resistance.
In a plate making method for an aluminum planographic printing material in which an aluminum planographic printing material having a physical developing nucleus layer on a surface-roughened and anodically oxidized aluminum support and further having a silver halide emulsion layer thereon is subjected to at least development and water washing, the reflection density of the aluminum support is in the range of 0.4-0.5 and development is carried out in such a way that the reflection density of a non-image region of the aluminum planographic printing material after water washing is made lower than that of the aluminum support by 0.01-0.03.
