Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing device, and a coat removing method and a branching method for an optical fiber cable that can reduce time and effort required for branching work without stopping communication.
SOLUTION: Using a device forming the polishing surface of abrasives held in plane shape, the polishing surface is brought into face contact with the optical fiber cable 20 to polish and remove a mantle coat. The mantle coat of the optical fiber coat can thus be polished uniformly and removed to expose each coated optical fiber 21 without damaging each coated optical fiber 21. The specific coated optical fiber is thereby extracted separately from the remaining coated optical fibers and optically connected to other coated optical fibers provided separately, thus branching the optical fiber cable.
