To obtain the subject new compound useful for preventing and treating osteopathy/chondropathy such as malignant hypercalcemia, Paget's disease of bone and osteoporosis.
This new compound (salt) is shown by formula I (R1 is a 1-15C branched- or straight-chain alkyl, etc.; R2 is H, a 1-15C branched- or straight- chain alkyl, etc.; R3 is H, a 1-15C branched- or straight-chain alkyl, etc.; R5 and R6 are each H, a 1-15C branched- or straight-chain alkyl, etc.), e.g. (2,4,6- trihydroxyphenyl)(2,6-dimethylheptyl)ketone. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, as follows: a polyhydroxybenzene of formula II is reacted with an acylating agent such as acetyl chloride in the presence of an acid catalyst such as aluminum bromide to form an acylated polyhydroxybenzene of formula III which is then converted to a salt through reaction with sodium hydroxide followed by reaction of the salt with an alkylating agent such as methyl iodide.
