The polynuclear complex has a chalcogen crosslinked polynuclear skeleton coordinated with a quinoline as a ligand. The complex may be a tri-nuclear or higher nuclear complex. The polynuclear skeleton may be a cubane type skeleton or incomplete cubane skeleton. The chalcogen may be at least one kind of a sulfur element and an oxygen element. The polynuclear skeleton may contain at least one kind of molybdenum and tungsten as a metal atom. The quinoline used as the ligand may be at least one kind selected from the group consisting of 8-hydroxyquinoline which may contain a substituent group and 8-mercaptoquinoline which may contain a substituent group.
