To solve the problem that the conventional portable information terminal apparatus or cell phone capable of reading a bar code requires complex operation for switching from standard photographing to macro photographing or setting of photographing condition.
The portable information terminal apparatus in this invention is an apparatus in which a photographing lens approaches an imaging element in conjunction with operation of an operation dial provided to the terminal body for macro photographing for stopping-down operation with a diaphragm, so that a focal length (depth of field) is changed to such setting as appropriate for macro photographing. When the imaging part is set to be macro photographing, a bar code is photographed with an optimum exposure, and the bar code image which has been read is decrypted and is recorded and displayed as bar code information.
