To provide a position detection device that detects a position of a component or the like with high accuracy.
The position detection device 50 for detecting a position of a component 20 has a base member 10 including a surface 11 and a back surface 12, and an image pickup camera 40 arranged on the back surface 12 side of the base member 10. The component 20 is arranged with the spacing S from the surface 11. The image pickup camera 40 detects the position of the component 20 by reading the light 40L having transmitted through the base member 10 from the surface 11 side to the back surface 12 side along an outer edge 20E of the component 20. The spacing S is determined so that the outer edge 20E of the component 20 is located within the depth of field 40R of the image pickup camera 40, and the surface 11 of the base member 10 is located outside the depth of field 40R of the image pickup camera 40 when the image pickup camera 40 detects the position of the component 20.
