To give idling current against the returning force of a gear shift lever by a belt closed gear shift mechanism, and prevent a natural accelerating phenomenon at the time of driving on a steep slope, in an electric motor assist mechanism which can be reversely-rotated.
This power shift device is provided with a pair of pressure sensitive sensors 56, 56 at a gear shift lever 41 so that the assist force of an electric motor 55 may be obtained by manual gear shift operation. The device is also provided with a holding current controlling means which flows weak current into the electric motor 55 to stop the gear shift lever 41 against the diameter expansion energizing force of the driven pulley of a belt non-stage transmission mechanism 1 under such a lever neutral condition as either pressure sensitive sensor 56 does not detect. A flat spring 83 which provides frictional resistance for stopping and holding the gear shift lever 41 at any of operating positions except the neutral one positively is fitted at a lever guide, and lever holding power by the friction power is set larger than operating force which is required for the detecting operation of the pressure sensitive sensor 56 with the gear shift lever 41.
