Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain 4,5-difluorobenzaldehydes useful in the preparation of intermediates of drugs, or the like with good efficiency in high yield by reacting specific benzaldehydes with a fluorinating agent.
CONSTITUTION: Benzaldehydes of formula I (wherein X is fluorine or chlorine; and Y is H or chlorine) are reacted with a fluorinating agent such as potassium fluoride in the presence of a solvent such as dimethyl acetamide to obtain the objective 4,5-difluorobenzaldehydes of formula II. Further, it is preferred to chlorinating the aldehyde group of the benzal dehydes to obtain the benzoyl chlorides, and then, converting them to antibacterial agents.
