PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound having high storage stability and useful as a food additive, cold-wave lotion, raw material of pharmaceuticals, etc., by neutralizing the aromatic sulfonic acid salt of DL-cysteine with a base in a water-containing lower alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by neutralizing the aromatic sulfonic acid salt of DL-cysteine (e.g. benzenesulfonic acid salt, p-toluenesulfonic acid salt, etc. of DL-cysteine) with a base such as ethylamine, triethylamine, pyridine, etc. in a hydrated lower alcohol (e.g. methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, etc.) containing 5W60wt%, preferably 10W50wt% of water, at -20W+80°C, preferably 0W60°C. The amount of the hydrated lower alcohol is 0.5W10pts.wt., preferably 1W6pts.wt. per 1pts.wt. of the aromatic sulfonic acid salt of DL- cysteine.
