PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new agent containing adioxabicyclooctane deriva tive having a specific structure as an active ingredient, capable of significantly suppressing the elevation of a blood pressure, and having less adverse effects and a high stability.
CONSTITUTION: This suppressing or improving agent for hypertension or medical symptoms caused thereby contains a dioxabicyclo [3. 3. 0] octane derivative of the formula (R1 to R6 are each H, a 1-3C alkyl, etc.; (n), (m), (l) are each 0, 1) [e.g., sesamin, (2,6-bis-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxypheny)-3,7-dioxabicyclo [3. 3. 0] octane), etc.] as an active ingredient. The compound of the formula is obtained, e.g., by purifying and isolating sesame oil extract material obtained by extracting a sesame oil with an organic solvent such as acetone, with a conventional method such as a column chromatography. Also, it is preferable to administer the compound of the formula with tocopherols for the potentiation of its preventing or improving effect.
