To selectively perform printing in a plurality of resolutions by a simple constitution.
A printer includes a connector, a motor, a transport mechanism, a drive circuit, a determination means, and a control means. The connector can alternatively connect a plurality of print heads each having different resolutions. The transport mechanism transports a print medium facing the print head connected to the connector by the torque of the motor. The drive circuit drives the motor in a plurality of driving states in which the rotational speeds of the motor are different respectively. The determination means determines the type of the print head connected to the connector. The control means controls the drive circuit so as to bring it into the driving state previously related with the type determined by the determination means.
