The printer 1 includes: a head 11 printing on a work 40; a driving motor moving either the head 11 or the work 40 to change a printing position in the work 40; a rotary encoder and encoder counter specifying a relative position of the head 11 to the work 40; and a control device 50 supplying the encoder with power and making the encoder counter continue to count even after magnetic excitation of the driving motor is suddenly stopped during printing.
