Abstract:
To enable an optical sensor to detect an edge of a medium even when a mark or a graphic has been formed in the medium.SOLUTION: A printer comprises: first optical sensors 82 and 84 that detect first and second pinch rollers 17a and 17b; a carriage 26 provided with second optical sensors 92 and 94 that detect an end of a medium 200; and a control unit 74. The control unit 74 executes control including first operation for detecting positions of the first and second pinch rollers 17a and 17b and second operation performed after the first operation to detect the end of the medium 200. In the second operation, in a range outside the positions of the first and second pinch rollers 17a and 17b in a scanning direction which have been detected by the first operation, detection of an end position of the medium 200 based on detection signals of the second optical sensors 92 and 94 is executed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
