There are provided a printing part for pressing a thermal head 6 thereby printing via an ink ribbon 8 to a medium 1 carried in between a thermal head 6 and a platen roller 7 opposite to the thermal head 6, a pair of transfer rollers 2 and 4 for transferring the medium 1, a platen-driving motor for rotating the platen roller 7, a take-up shaft for taking up the ink ribbon 8, and a control means for taking up the ink ribbon 8 and rotating the platen roller 7 by driving the take-up shaft and platen-driving motor before the medium 1 transferred by the pair of transfer rollers 2 and 4 is carried into between the thermal head 6 and platen roller 7.
