To do good print positioning between a treatment liquid having a bleeding preventive function and ink irrespective of the kind of a printing medium in a printing apparatus having a plurality of print heads.
A plurality of patterns indicating different optical properties corresponding to the dislocation quantities of relative printing positions between a pattern comprising the first and second prints by ink in which at least parts of them contact each other on the printing medium and a print by the treatment liquid are formed. The amount of the ink applied on printing medium is adjusted so that the optimum bleeding of the ink for print positioning is obtained. The density of each formed pattern is measured, and on the basis of density information, the optimum print positioning between the first print or the second print out of ink prints and a treatment liquid print is done.
