PURPOSE: To simplify a drive mechanism by rotationally constituting the same, by a method wherein a change-over mechanism is energized in one direction and displaced by the second drive source to select the driving of a paper feed mechanism and that of a printing means moving mechanism.

CONSTITUTION: At the left end home position of a carriage 7, an integral actuator 28 allows an intermediate lever 15 to move to the left and the rack of the end part stopper 29 of a change-over lever 13 energized by a spring meshes with a gear 2 to fix said gear 2. When a sun gear 8 is driven in this state by a motor 1, the carriage 7 moves to the right by a gear 5. When a solenoid 12 is operated, a roller 24 contacts a timing belt 6 with a cam 26 through a drive lever 14 and an arm 23 to rotate the cam 26 and a printing head is contacted with paper.
