To judge whether or not a digital camera conforms to a photographic direct printing mode, without transmitting unprepared information to the digital camera side, and to notify the function of a printing apparatus after the digital camera is judged to conform.
In the case where the digital camera DSC and a printer are directly connected with each other to directly print an image stored and held in the DSC, the printer apparatus requires information possessed by the digital camera so as to judge whether or not the digital camera conforms to the photographic direct printing mode (S29). As a result, if a script in which specific information is described is received (S30; Yes), the digital camera being connected is judged to conform to the photographic direct printing mode, and the printer apparatus transmits to the digital camera a script which shows that the printer being connected conforms to the photographic direct printing mode (S33).
