Title:
PRODUCTION OF 4-PHENYL-1-BUTENE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3503150
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a 4-phenyl-1-butene in high purity and high yield, by reacting an allylmagnesium halide with a benzyl halide, useful as an intermediate material for the pesticides, the medicines or the electronic materials.
CONSTITUTION: By reacting an allylmagnesium halide with a benzyl halide of the formula I (where, R is H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy; X is Cl, Br), if necessary, in the presence of a catalyst (e.g.; bis(1, 3- diphenylphosphinopropane) nickel chloride), at a temperature of 0 to 80°C to obtain a 4-phenyl-1-butene of the formula II. The allylmagnesium halide is obtained by reacting metallic magnesium with an allyl halide in a solvent (e.g.; toluene) at a temperature of-50 to 50°C. It is possible to obtain the compound of the formula II by using inexpensive and easily available raw materials.
