Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a film excellent in tensile strength, tensile elastic modulus and transparency by dissolving an aromatic polyamide in a polar amide, preparing an optically isotropic dope, then forming the resultant dope into the shape of a film, dipping the formed filmy dope in a polar solvent, coagulating the dope into a filmy form, treating the coagulated filmy material with an isocyanate compound and then drying the treated filmy material.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyamide comprising recurring structural units of formulas I and II is dissolved in a polar amide to prepare an optically isotropic dope, which is then formed into the shape of a film. The filmy dope is subsequently dipped in a polar solvent such as methanol kept at ≤-20°C and coagulated into the shape of a film. The resultant filmy material is treated with an isocyanate compound and then dried.
