PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound through vapor phase intramolecular dehydration of an alkanolamine in the presence of a catalyst in a continuous way by arranging fixed bed flow-through type reactors in parallel and by dehydration and catalyst regeneration alternately in the respective reactors.
CONSTITUTION: At least one of fixed bed flow-through type reactors (pref. of multitubular type with the inner diameter of each reaction tube of 20-50mm) arranged in parallel is fed with a gas of a compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, methyl or ethyl; R3 is R1, R2, propyl, isopropyl, t-butyl, n-butyl, aminoethyl, hydroxyethyl or phenyl) to make a dehydration, and after a lapse of specified time (such a time that the level of the deposited matter on a catalyst come to 1-10wt.%), the feed of this compound is switched to another reactor to continue the dehydration; concurrently, the former reactor is fed with a molecular oxygen-contg. gas to burn the adhered matter on the catalyst, thus, regenerating the catalyst. By repeating the above-mentioned operations, them objective compound of formula II can be obtained continuously.
