Abstract:
PURPOSE: To safely obtain an azoimino ether compound from an inexpensive raw material in a short time in high yield by successively reacting a hydrazonitrile compound with bromine, chlorine and anhydrous hydrochloric acid in the presence of an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: This azoimino ether compound of formula II (R3 is a lower alkyl; X is Cl or Br) [e.g. 2,2'-azobis(1-imino-1-methoxy-2-methylpropane) dihydrochloridel can be produced by reacting a compound of formula I (R1 and R2 each is a 1-7C alkyl or R1 and R2 together form a cycloalkyl) with bromine and then chlorine at -10 to +40°C in the presence of an alcohol (e.g. methanol) in a solvent (e.g. 1,2-dichloroethane) and reacting the reaction product with anhydrous hydrochloric acid at 5-40°C for 2-6hr. The compound of formula II is useful as a synthetic intermediate for non-cyanic azo compound being used as a radical polymerization agent necessary for the production of polymeric compounds.
