Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for the production of the subject compound useful as ca synthetic intermediate for yellow coupler for color photography, etc., in short step from a compound synthesizable from an easily available inexpensive compound.
CONSTITUTION: This process for producing a carbamoylacylcyclopropane compound of formula II comprises the decarbonating ring-contraction reaction of a 2-carbamoylacyl-4-butanolide compound of formula I (R1 to R7 each is H, an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an alkylthio, an arylthio; R8 and R9 are H, an alkyl, an aryl) using an aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or aromatic hydrocarbon as a solvent in the presence of an alkali metal iodine and preferably a cuprous or cupric compound. The compound of formula I is a new compound and obtained by reacting a γ-butyrolactone derivative of formula III with a carbonic acid ester and then with a compound of formula R6R7CHCO2R11 (R11 is a 1-8C alkyl) and reacting the resultant compound of formula IV (R10 is a 1-5C alkyl) with an amine of the formula HNR8R9.
