A reaction system comprising at least one compound comprising CO, an organic halogen compound having carbon-halogen bond (preferably an organoiodine compound) and at least one compound selected from an alcohol, water ammonia and an amino is irradiated with light in the presence of a base under CO partial pressure of ≥2 atmospheric pressure to provide the objective corresponding carbonylated compound. The organic halogen compound, preferably having hydrogen bonded to an sp3 carbon at β position of a halogen is carbonylated in good selectivity.
