PURPOSE: To economically obtain the subject compound useful as raw material of medicine in high yield by using an indanone oxime as raw material and performing high pressure hydrogenation in a polar solvent in the presence of a noble metal catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An indanone oxime expressed by formula I or formula II (R is H, halogen, lower alkyl or alkoxy; (n) is 0-4; for n≥2, plural R may be mutually same or different) is subjected to high pressure hydrogenation in a polar solvent (preferably methanol, ethanol, diethyl ether or tetrahydrofuran, etc.) in the presence of a noble metal catalyst (preferably metallic palladium-carrying catalyst) to afford the compound expressed by formula III. Hydrogenation is preferably performed under 10-150kg/cm2G, especially 30-80kg/cm2G hydrogen pressure. Besides, reaction temperature is 60-150°C, preferably 90-120°C. Using amount of polar solvent is about 2-10 times of the raw material in a weight ratio.
