PURPOSE: To easily produce a dispersed grain-reinforced hard alloy powder having a specified grain size by placing a hard alloy powder material in a copper crucible, melting the metal by high-frequency induction heating while the metal is kept out of contact with the crucible side wall, solidifying the molten metal and mechanically crushing the solidified metal.
CONSTITUTION: The side wall of a copper crucible 10 is divided into plural segments 14, a cooling water hole 16 is formed in each segment 14, and a hard alloy powder material is charged into the crucible. A high-frequency current is applied to a high-frequency heating coil 12 provided around the crucible 10 in direction of the arrow, hence and induced current flows in each coil 12 in direction of the arrow to compensate the magnetism generated by the current of the coil 12, the material in the crucible 10 is heated and melted, and the molten metal 18 is repelled by the crucible side wall and separated from the side wall. The molten metal 18 is mechanically crushed into a desired grain size, and a dispersed grain reinforced hard alloy powder having ≥1000 Vickers hardness is easily obtained without damaging the crucible 10.
