PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain thin double-side cast-coated paper without impairing gloss or smoothness of cast surface even in thinning a finish coating layer by using a proteinic adhesive containing a special water resistance imparter in an undercoating layer.
CONSTITUTION: Both surfaces of a base paper are coated with an undercoating composition, dried and then coated with a finish coating composition. Cast coating finish is then carried out between a heated drum having a specular surface and a press roll while the coated composition is in a wet state to produce double-side cast-coated paper. In the process, a proteinic adhesive (preferably casein, soybean protein, etc.) is used as an adhesive for the undercoating composition and at least one of water resistance imparter selected from salts (preferably sulfate) of Zn, Al or Mg, zirconium compound, epoxy compound, glyoxal and amino resins is added thereto.
