Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently, industrially and advantageously obtain high-purity esters having a low acid value without being colored by reacting an olefin with carbon monoxide and an alcohol in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and then carrying out the purifying treatment of the reaction solution according to a specific method.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing esters is to initially react an olefin (e.g. propylene) with carbon monoxide and an alcohol (e.g. methanol), preferably in hydrogen fluoride, subsequently react the resultant reaction product with an alcohol, then distill the reaction solution in a distillation column under conditions of refluxing a saturated hydrocarbon (e.g. hexane), recover the hydrogen fluoride from the reaction solution, subsequently wash the reaction solution after recovering the hydrogen fluoride with water, distill and purify the reaction solution and perform the catalytic hydrogenatlon treatment in the presence of a hydrogenation reaction catalyst such as an Ru-based or a Pd-based catalyst in an amount of preferably 0.04-0.2 pt.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. esters to be treated.
