PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fabric having a low air permeability with good weaving properties by weaving a core-sheath conjugated fiber at a specified weight ratio of a core part to a sheath part having a lower melting point than that of the core part and carrying out the fusing heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: This fabric for an air bag is obtained by weaving a core-sheath conjugated fiber at (50/50) to (90/10) weight ratio of a core part to a sheath part having a lower melting point than that of the core part and heat-treating the woven fabric at a temperature between the melting point of a polymer in the core part and that of a polymer in the sheath part. Thereby, the air permeability of the fabric can be reduced without deteriorating the mechanical strength of the fabric and the resultant fabric for the air bag has ≤30cm3/cm2/ sec amount of air permeation when the differential pressure is regulated to 19.6kPa, ≥150kg/3cm tensile strength, ≥15% breaking elongation and ≥50kg/cm2 bursting strength.
