Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for the production of gluconic acid by an enzyme catalyst process.
CONSTITUTION: Glucose oxidase and fine particles of a noble metal are dispersed in an aqueous solution of sodium alginate which is a water-soluble polymer having mutually cross-linkable functional groups in the molecule. The aqueous solution is dropped into an aqueous solution containing calcium chloride acting as a molecular cross-linking agent to effect the gelatinization of the dropped liquid droplet and obtain polymeric gel beads. Gluconic acid is produced by supplying an oxygen-containing gas to an aqueous solution of glucose in the presence of the polymeric gel beads.
