Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce silicon nitride ceramics of high toughness that has high toughness and a large strength without unevenness in quality. SOLUTION: This ceramic production process comprises the first step where a mixture of 5-40 vol.% of columnar silicon nitride elementary particles 1, 5-50 wt.% of a sintering aid and the rest amount of fine powder of silicon nitride with an average particle size of <=0.1 μm 2 are kneaded together with a binder, the second step where the kneaded product is molded, as a shear force is applied to the kneaded product in one direction, the third step where the molded product is heated to remove the binder and the fourth step where the molded product is sintered to grow the columnar particles.
