Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a metal carrier having excellent joining strength by feeding a grazing solder onto the surface of a binder, forcedly inserting a honeycomb body into an outer cylinder before drying the binder and then drying the binder to remove moisture in the binder before performing heating and brazing.
CONSTITUTION: A brazing solder 2 is fed onto a binder part of a honeycomb body 1. A foil solder 4 for joining the honeycomb body 1 to an outer cylinder 3 in which the honeycomb body 1 is housed is added to the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb body 1. And before drying the binder, the honeycomb body 1 is forcedly inserted into the outer cylinder 3. Next, the outer cylinder 3 is transferred into a dryer 14 to remove moisture in the binder by drying and transferred into a heater 15 and good brazing is given between a sheet 1a and a corrugated sheet 1b and to the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb body 1 and the inner peripheral surface of the outer cylinder 3 to obtain a metal carrier. Consequently a metal carrier having excellent joining strength is effectively produced.
