PURPOSE: To obtain a compd. which is useful as a plant disease control agent by bringing phenol or napthol and alkyl isocyanate into reaction in the presence of a specific catalyst with short time operation.
CONSTITUTION: The phenol or the napthol and the alkyl isocyanate are brought into reaction by using the bicycloamidine or bicycloguanidine contg. the ternary nitrogen bonded to the ketoiminic carbon of formula I of formula II (R1 and R2 are unsubstd., 1 to 5C alkyl or 3 to 5C alkenyl having a phenyl substituent; R5 is 1 to 5C alkyl or alkyl-aryl) as the catalyst. The objective is obtd. by effecting the reaction in a solvent, such as toluene at 0 to 50°C. The catalyst is exemplified by 1,5-diazabicyclo(4,3,0)nona-5-ene and is used at 0.0001 to 0.05 mol for each 1 mol of the phenol and napthol.
