To readily obtain the subject polymer in high yield by subjecting a sulfonic acid type functional group-containing perfluorocarbon monomer to solution polymerization with a perfluoroolefin by using hydrofluoro ether as a medium.
(A) A sulfonic acid type functional group-containing perfluorocarbon monomer [preferably CF2=CFOCF2CF(CF3)OCF2CF2SO2F] is subjected to solution polymerization with (B) perfluoroolefin (preferably tetrafluoroethylene) in (C) a hydrofluoroether medium of the formula CnH2n+1-O- CmF2m+1 [(n) is 1 or 2; (m) is an integer of 2-8] to provide the objective perfluorocarbon polymer. The component C preferably includes C4F9OCH3, CF3CF2CF2OCH3, etc. The polymer obtained thus is preferably used especially as ion exchange film. This method reduces fear of the ozonosphere disruption and global warming.
