Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyacetal copolymer by copolymerizing trioxane as a main monomer with a comonomer copolymerizable with the trioxane, capable of efficiently and profitably removing, recovering and reusing the unreacted monomers from the polymerization system in the latter term or last term of the polymerization, and profitably producing the polyacetal copolymer excellent in qualities such as thermal stability, etc., in simple processes.
SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyacetal copolymer comprises copolymerizing trioxane as a main monomer with a cyclic ether or cyclic formal having at least one carbon bond in the presence of a cationic active catalyst. Therein, the unreacted monomers are evaporated off and recovered from the polymerization system at a stage that the polymerization degree reaches at least 60 wt.% (based on the whole monomers). On the recovery, a basic compound is added to the unreacted monomer and allowed to coexist in the unreacted monomer.
