Abstract:

To enable to directly and stably produce the subject polymer having a high mol.wt. and excellent in solution stability without isolating a diisocyanate compound by polymerizing a specific bisurethane compound monomer.

This method for producing a polycarbodiimide having repeating constituting units of formula III [(n) is 8-40] comprises polymerizing (D) a compound of formula I (R1, R2 are each an alkyl, an aryl) [e.g. a reaction product obtained by reacting a corresponding diamine with a compound of formula II (X is a halogen] in the presence of (A) A carbodiimide-forming catalyst such as 1-phenyl-2-phospholene-1-oxide, (B) a basic compound and (C) an organic silicon halide compound such as trimetlylchlorosilane. Thus, a polycarbodiimide having a number-average mol.wt. of 2000-100000, excellent in storage stability and high in reliability in the form of coating films can be obtained.
