PURPOSE: To obtain a contact lens which permits easy flow of tears and supply of O2 by slicing the hydrophilic polymer obtd. by polymerizing and solidifying a monomer in a vessel stretched with a synthetic fiber in one direction, swelling the same in water and removing filament fragments.
CONSTITUTION: A stretched body 5 for a synthetic fiber 3 which is stretched between supports 1 and 2 made of metal is disposed in a vessel 4, and a monomer 6 that can be cast and solidified is charged therein and is polymerized and solidified in a thermostatic chamber 8. The resultant hydrophilic polymer is removed and thinly sliced, whereby a half-finished product 9 is obtained. After said product is swelled with water, the product is ultrasonically cleaned at an ordinary temp. The filament fragment 3' which does not swell is dislodged away. The product is repeated to a stage of boiling in pure water and cooling about 3 times. A product 11 shrinks to the original state and has a through-hole 10 of 0.1W1.0mm made therein. Further a polishing wire 12 is inserted into the hole 10, and product is dipped in polishing liquid 16. An ultrasonic cleaner 13 is operated to polish the hole 10 smoothly. From this product 11, a contact lens is cut out.
