PURPOSE: To efficiently produce a reflective thermal decomposition graphite by thermally decompose a short chain hydrocarbon under a specific condition to form a thermal decomposition graphite on a supporting body and annealing under a specific high temp. and high pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon is aggregated and deposited on the adequate supporting body by thermally decomposing the short chain hydrocarbon at 1850-2250°C, preferably 2150-2160°C under 1-6Torr pressure by a chemical deposition technique. As the supporting body, graphite, metal tungsten, metal hafnium or the like is used. As a result, a thermal decomposition graphite thin film having ≥1mm, preferably 0.1-0.6cm thickness is formed. Next, an oven, in which the supporting body having the thermal decomposition graphite is arranged, is evacuated and the temp. is gradually raised to 700-1000°C while keeping the pressure 1Torr. Next, the pressure of the oven is increased to 5-10Torr while raising the temp. of the oven to 2600-3300°C, preferably 2900-2950°C. After the pressure and the temp. are kept for 10min to 2hr, the resultant reflective graphite product is cooled and recovered.
