Title:
PRODUCTION OF SILANE-CROSSLINKED POLYOLEFIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3290396
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a silane-crosslinked polyolefin in a high silane graft ratio and a high degree of silane crosslinking, which process comprises: using an extruder/kneader having a kneading disc in a specified position; introducing a polyolefin-type polymer and an organic unsaturated silane or the like to the kneader/ extrude through its first feed part; introducing a condensation catalyst or the like thereto through its second feed port; kneading and extruding the mixture; and crosslinking the extrudate by contact with water.
SOLUTION: The extruder/kneader used has a kneading disc in a position of L/D=3-9 (wherein L is the axial length of the screw; and D is the diameter of the screw) between first and second feed ports of the screw. A base polymer such as a polyethylene or a polypropylene, an organic unsaturated silane of the formula (wherein R is an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon group; Y is a hydrolyzable group; and R' is a hydrocarbon group except an aliphatically unsaturated hydrocarbon group or the same as Y), and a free radical generator are introduced into the extruder through the first feed port, and the mixture in a molten state is mixed and kneaded with a silanol condensation catalyst and an antioxidant introduced thereinto through the second feed port to form a silane-crosslinked polyolefin having a high graft ratio.
