PURPOSE: To sanitarily and safely obtain the titled compound useful as a polymer modifying agent in good yield, by thermally decomposing a reaction product of a halogenoformic acid ester with a silicon-containing alkylamine expressed by a specific structural formula in the presence of a trialkylchlorosilane.
CONSTITUTION: A halogenoformic acid ester (e.g. methyl chloroformate) is initially reacted with a silicon-containing alkylamine expressed by formula I (R1WR3 are 1W5C hydrocarbon and one or more thereof are alkoxy) [e.g. 3-(diethoxymethylsilyl)propylamine], as necessary, in a solvent, such as toluene, preferably at room temperatureW50°C to provide a silicon-containing carbamate derivative, which is then thermally decomposed in the presence of a trialkylchlorosilane, preferably at 80W100°C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula II. Furthermore, the above-mentioned reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a tertiary amine, etc., so as to capture generated hydrogen chloride.
