Abstract:

PURPOSE: To advantageously produce a sintered compact for a Cr target capable of preventing the generation of oxide dust at the time of forming a thin film of the target material on a magnetic recording medium and capable of increasing recording density.
CONSTITUTION: When a sintered compact for a Cr target contg. chromium oxide grains dispersed in metal Cr is produced, metal Cr powder contg. soluble oxygen or oxide crystals is optionally mixed with chromium oxide powder and the resultant powder is subjected to hot isostatic pressing to obtain the objective sintered compact contg. chromium oxide grains of 0.1-100μm grain size deposited or grown in metal Cr.
