Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a molding improved in noncorrosiveness to metallic materials and coloration and degradation of a molding, by molding an EVA composition mixed with a hydrotalcite compound, and crosslinking the molding by irradiation.

CONSTITUTION: A hydrotalcite compound is added to an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) composition and the mixture is molded into any desired shape. This molding is crosslinked by irradiation. Examples of the hydrotalcite compounds used include Mg6Al2(OH)16.4H2O and Mg4.5Al2(OH)13 CO3.3.5H2O, and combinations thereof. In order to improve many other properties, it is possible to add a suitable amount of a flame retardant, stabilizer, antioxidant, lubricant, crosslinking accelerator, or the like. The radiation dose necessary for crosslinking is selected from the range of 1W50Mrad, depending on the purpose and degree of crosslinking.
