To provide a method for efficiently producing an N-alkoxy-N- alkylamide compound useful as an intermediate for producing ketones or aldehydes.

This N-alkoxy-N-alkylamide compound is obtained from an ester or lactone compound by using an N,O-dialkyl hydroxylamine or its salt (e.g. N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrichloride) and an alkylaluminum halide (e.g. dimethylaluminum chloride). This method is high in the reaction rate as compared to conventional methods, enabling efficient reaction even for bulky ester group or lactone ring.
