To solve such a problem that sufficient cooling cannot be performed when a control voltage for a cooling fan is a permissible value or more or external air pressure is lower than a permissible air pressure range, in the case of controlling the cooling fan, based on temperature and air pressure.

A projector having the cooling fan 13 includes: a temperature sensor 2 detecting temperature inside equipment or external air temperature; an air pressure sensor 3 detecting the external air pressure; a calculating means 1 which obtains the target speed of rotation of the cooling fan 13 from the temperature inside the equipment or the external air temperature detected by the temperature sensor 2, to correct the target speed of rotation, based on the external air pressure value detected by the air pressure sensor and calculate the corrected target speed of rotation; and a controller for reducing power supplied to a light emitting tube 7, when the control voltage corresponding to the target speed of rotation calculated by the calculating means 1 is the maximum value of the cooling fan or more or the external air pressure is the permissible air pressure of the cooling fan or less.
