PURPOSE: To provide a protective unit for electric automobile which ensures safety when the electric automobile is driven in reverse by its own weight.
CONSTITUTION: An electric automobile to be protected is equipped with a controller 1 for controlling a motor 3 according to a torque command current calculated depending on the difference between a speed command signal received from an accelerator sensor (not shown) and a current speed signal of the motor 3 received from an encoder 4. The controller 1 comprises means for detecting an abnormal state where an accelerator switch (not shown) for switching the output state in response to presence/absence of the speed command signal produces an output signal representative of nongenerating state of speed command and the torque command currents has a value for rotating the motor 3, and means for controlling the motor 3 to the safety side, e.g. in the stopping direction, in response to an output from the abnormality detection means.
