PURPOSE: To purify cephamycin C from a cephamycin C-containing culture filtrate efficiently, by treating the culture solution with an ion exchange resin, desalting it by electrodialysis.
CONSTITUTION: A mold, etc. is removed from a culture solution obtained by cultivating a bacterium (e.g., Streptomyces clavuligerus-NRRL 3585) capable of producing cephamycin, to give a culture filtrate. The culture filtrate is brought into contact with an ion exchange resin, cephamycin C is adsorbed on the resin, impurities are removed, and cephamycin C is eluted to give an ion exchange resin treated solution containing cephamycin C. The ion exchange resin treated solution is desalted by electrodialysis using an ion exchange membrane, and lyophilized to give cephamycin C. When the ion exchange resin treated solution is concentrated by a reverse osmosis membrane and desalted, the yield is further improved.
