Title:
PURIFICATION OF INDIGO
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07157684
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain sufficiently purified indigo in a high yield by extraction- treating an aq. leuco indigo alkali metal salt soln. with an inert solvent under oxygen-excluding conditions and conventionally regenerating the indigo by oxidation.

CONSTITUTION: In a process for purifying indigo, an aq. leuco indigo alkali metal salt soln. is extraction-treated with an inert solvent (e.g. xylene) under oxygen-excluding conditions, and after phase separation, the extraction-treated leuco indigo salt soln. is conventionally regenerated by oxidation. Indigo prepd. by a conventionally known process contains a considerable amt. of impurities such as aniline and N-methylaniline; however, sufficiently purified indigo is obtd. in a high yield by the process of the invention.
