To provide a raw material powder for lithium-nickel composite metal oxide that is suitable for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having high discharge capacity.
The raw material powder for lithium-nickel composite metal oxide is a powder comprising a lithium compound and a nickel-containing composite metal compound, provided that when the powder is analyzed with plasma emission spectrometry for particles constituting the powder, the powder fulfills the following conditions (1) and (2): (1) relative to a linear approximation obtained from a synchronous distribution diagram prepared by plotting lithium emission intensity and nickel emission intensity of each of the particles constituting the powder, the absolute deviation of the plotted synchronous distribution diagram is not greater than 0.10; (2) the percentage of the free lithium is not more than 80%, provided that the percentage of free lithium is expressed by the formula: (b/a)×100(%), wherein a is the number of particles containing lithium and b is the number of particles containing lithium but not containing nickel among those constituting the powder.
