PURPOSE: To provide a process for carrying out an addition reaction of a perfluoroalkyl iodide to an olefinic compound in the presence of an aqueous solution of a specific initiator and a water-soluble salt to provide an addition product useful as a raw material for producing an oil-repellent agent, a water- repellent agent, a fluorine-containing surfactant or the like in a high purity and high yield.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A perfluoroalkyl iodide {e.g. a iodide in which the perfluoroalkyl is one or more members of the homologue series of the formula CnF2n+1 [(n) is 4-20]} is subjected to the addition reaction to (B) an olefin compound such as allyl alcohol in the presence of an aqueous solution of an azo- based initiator or a peroxy initiator and a sulfate, a hydrogen (meta)sulfite or a dithionite as a water-soluble salt to provide a corresponding addition product in the process for reacting the perfluoroalkyl iodide with the olefinic compound. The amount of the water-soluble salt used is preferably 0.01-30 mol.% based on that of the component A.
